Las hermanas en el mundo de la moda están por todos lados. Poppy y Cara Delevigne, las hermanas Clarins, Mary Kate y Ashley, Elle y Dakota Fanning, Charlotte Gainsbourg y Lou Doillon, Bianca y Coco Brandolini, la lista es interminable. Y tiene sentido, cuando piensas en ello. Mismos genes, mismo contexto social, mismos valores educativos, ¿mismos vicios? Pongamos mi propio ejemplo. Soy la más pequeña de 4 hermanos, tres mujeres y un hombre. Desde que puedo recordar, estuve en contacto con revistas de moda, desde Teen Vogue hasta Harper's Bazaar y Vogue. Creciendo, pedía prestada ropa a mis hermanas para ir a fiestas, para salir con amigas, o incluso sólo para impresionar en mi escuela. Recuerdo una ocasión en la que tomé prestada ropa de mi hermana y mientras me preparaba para salir, luciendo algo pretenciosa, mi padre me dijo con un tono burlón: "¿Sí sabes que eres pobre, verdad?". Lo volteé a ver y le respondí: "Sí, pero no lo parezco". Ambos explotamos de risa. Supongo que en ese momento, la moda significaba para mí una manera de pertenecer, de sentirme lo suficientemente "cool" o "a la moda" para ser parte del club. Más tarde, descubrí que era algo mucho más profundo; que a través de la moda podías expresar tu ser interno, tu sentido de la estética y tu propia comprensión del estilo. Y crecer con dos hermanas diametralmente opuestas me hizo consciente de esto. Tener hermanas significa tener 2, a veces 3 guardarropas a tu alcance, de donde poder escoger. Fui extremadamente afortunada. Y la cosa es que la ropa nunca se veía realmente igual en ninguna de nosotras. Es la manera en que te adueñas de la ropa, la manera en que la combinas, la manera en que te peinas y te maquillas, incluso la manera en que te mueves y hablas, la que eventualmente le da un espíritu a la ropa.

Para inaugurar la sección de "Fashion Sisters", escogí a dos hermosas damiselas, que conozco desde hace un buen rato. Cuando conocí a Dani, las dos éramos nuevas en la secundaria, y enseguida congeniamos. Fuimos mejores amigas durante todos mis años de adolescencia, y ahora que estoy de vuelta en la ciudad estamos recuperando el tiempo perdido. Su hermana Pau tenía seis años cuando la conocí. Era la cosa más tierna que jamás podrías imaginar. Y ahora...bueno, ha crecido. Las dos tienen estilos muy diferentes, y físicamente también son bastante diferentes, y sin embargo su parentesco es más que evidente. Las dos tienen estilos diferentes, pero están cortadas con la misma tijera. ¡Y qué suerte la de poder tener 2 guardarropas en vez de uno! Todavía viven juntas y son de la misma talla...

Sisters in fashion are everywhere. Poppy and Cara Delevigne, the Clarins sisters, Mary Kate and Ashley, Elle and Dakota Fanning, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon, Bianca and Coco Brandolini, the list could go on forever. It does makes sense, if you think about it. Same genes, same social background, same educational values, same vices? Let's put my own example. I'm the youngest of four siblings, three females and a male. From the time I could remember, I got in touch with fashions magazines, from Teen Vogue to Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Growing up, I would borrow my sisters' clothes for parties, to hang out with friends, or even just to wow people at my school. I remember that one time when I borrowed my sisters' clothes and whilst I was getting ready to go, looking kind of pretentious, my father told me, mockingly: You know that you are poor, don't you? I stared at him and I answered: "I know, but I don't look poor". We both burst out laughing. I guess in that moment fashion meant for me a way to belong, to feel "cool" or "hip" enough to be part of the gang. Eventually, I discovered that it was something much more profound; that through fashion you could express so many things about your inner self, your sense of aesthetics and your own comprehension of style. And growing up with my two very different siblings made me aware of that. Having sisters means having 2, sometimes 3, wardrobes from where to dig from. I was extremely lucky. And the thing is, clothes never looked quite the same on any of us. It's the way you own the clothes, the way you put them together, the way you style your hair and make up, and even the way you walk and talk, that eventually gives the clothes a spirit.

To inaugurate my "Fashion Sisters" section, I chose two beautiful ladies I've known for quite a while. When I met Dani, we were in 7th grade, we were both newcomers at junior high, and we immediately made a click. We were best friends for all my teenage years, and now that I've come back town we're making up for the lost time. Her sister, Pau, was six years old when I first met her. She was the cutest thing you'll ever see. And now, well, she's kind of grown up. Both have different styles, and physically look quite different, and despite all, their kinship is more than evident. They both have different styles, but they're cut from the same cloth. And what a lucky thing to have 2 wardrobes instead of one, since they're still living together and  wearing the same size!
